Looking for pet sitting in Lancaster PA? One of your first questions is probably: how much does this cost? Rates vary based on visit length, services, and whether you use an app or a local professional. Here's what you can expect in 2026.

What Pet Sitting Actually Costs in Lancaster County

Standard Drop In Visits

A typical visit in Lancaster County runs 20 30 minutes and includes feeding, fresh water, medication administration, potty breaks or litter box cleaning, and playtime. Expect to pay $20 45 per visit depending on the provider. My standard 25 minute visit is $30. That covers everything your pet needs in a single visit.

Extended Visits

  • 1 hour visit: $45
  • 2 hour visit: $80
  • 3 hour visit: $120
  • 5 hour visit: $180

Overnight Pet Sitting

Overnight pet sitting (7 PM to 7 AM) runs $90. That includes evening care, overnight supervision, morning feeding and walks. Your pet sleeps at home with a sitter present.

How Apps Compare

Here's what most people don't realize: the rate you pay isn't what the sitter gets.

Rover Pricing

  • Drop in visits: $25 45 (listed rate)
  • Rover charges owners a 5 7% service fee on top of that listed rate
  • Rover takes 20% of what the sitter earns

Care.com Pricing

  • Drop in visits: $20 40 (listed rate)
  • Requires a $39.99/month membership just to contact sitters
  • Listed rates may not include all services

Why Local Sitters Often Make More Sense

  • No platform fees your payment goes directly to the business
  • Direct communication no middleman delays
  • Consistent sitter every time not a different person each visit
  • Local knowledge of emergency vets and pet resources
  • Established business with insurance and accountability

What's Included

Not all services include the same things. When comparing prices, ask specifically what's covered. My visits include:

  • Fresh food and water
  • Medication administration (no extra charge)
  • Potty breaks or litter box cleaning
  • Playtime and affection
  • Home security check (lights, mail, etc.)
  • Photo updates sent to you

Some services charge extra for medications, multiple pets, or weekends. I don't the price is the price for your whole household.

Extra Fees to Know About

  • Holiday surcharge: $20 per visit on major holidays
  • Last minute booking: $15 convenience fee for bookings with less than 24 hours notice
  • Travel fees: All towns within my 30 mile service area included at no extra cost
  • Multi pet fees: Same price for all pets in one household

Ways to Save

  • Book in advance: Avoid last minute fees
  • Use the referral program: Refer a friend and you both save $25
  • Choose longer visits: Hourly rates decrease with extended bookings
  • Plan around holidays: Book non holiday dates when possible

Is It Worth It?

Compared to boarding kennels in Lancaster County (typically $35 65 per night), in home pet sitting offers real advantages: your pet stays home, gets one on one attention, avoids boarding stress and illnesses. For most pets, the comfort of staying home is worth the investment. Check our full comparison of pet sitting versus boarding for more details.
